Champions of Change End of Year Report 2009-2010

Read the Champions of Change End of Year Report 2009-2010

This report reports on activities in the first year of the Service, from September 2009 to September 2012 and includes details of the Launch, which took place at the start of year two.

The purpose of the service is to ensure real involvement of adults who use or have used mental health services and their carers in the strategic levels of planning and commissioning in Nottingham. In this way the target group can contribute meaningfully to the planning and delivery of services.

Community Action Reseachers and Reporters

As part of Get On Up Cars a case study was carried out  in June 2011 showing the work already being done by community groups in Nottingham to tackle heart health in Black and Minority Ethnic communities.

Bright Ideas and the Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) East Midlands (the region’s leading voluntary sector provider of adult learning) have been training local people from the city’s black and minority ethnic communities to become ‘community action researchers and reporters’. The aim of the training is to give local people the skills and experience they need to really make a difference in their communities, whilst gaining a greater insight into community views on issues such as heart health.

Women Leading for a Change Memories – Collection of Pictures

From November 2011 – March 2012 Bright Ideas Nottingham presented an inspirational leadership course for women, by women, called Women Leading For A Change.

The course was designed to introduce local women from all backgrounds to the idea and possibilities of leadership, whether they wanted to take the lead in their community, start a new project, inspire others or develop personally.

The course helped women to develop valuable skills in leadership and communication, whilst helping them to grow in confidence and discover their own potential. Click here to find out more information.

A screening took place on 8th March 2012, International Women’s Day, and was a chance for all the women who had taken part on the course, along with those who hadn’t, to watch a short film produced by the Broadway which was made up of extracts from the speakers at the different inspirational events. Click here to find out more information about the screening event.

A short film which was made up of photographs taken from workshops and events throught the course was also shown at the event. Watch Women Leading for a Change Memories – Collection of Pictures below.
