Families Rooting For Recovery

‘Families Rooting For Recovery’ is taking place as part of Mental Health Awareness Weeks 2012 (www.mhaw.org.uk). It is “a positive day to ecourage and inspire hope in families, friends and carers of those experiencing mental distess”.

This event will take place on Friday 12th October 2012, from 9.45am – 3pm, at ‘Central Seminars’ (formally known as ‘Life at the Centre’), 22 Lower Parliament Street (next to Wilkinson’s), Nottingham, NG1 3DA.

This uplifting conference will look at beliefs about mental health recovery and the positive things we can all do to support the recovery and well-being of family members. We will also look at how carers, friends and family members can take more care of their own well-being.

It has been organised by a new partnership of community sector groups and individuals.

Themes will include:

• Messages of Hope: Inspirational Stories

• Advocacy; Increasing Confidence and Self-esteem

• Keynote speaker: Dr. Paul Blackburn on

“Roles, Relationships and Responsibilities”

• Links between physical health and mental well-being

• Workshops

 

The event is FREE with with lunch included! However, we are requesting an optional donation to support with the direct conference costs.

The Champions of Change Creative Crafts Fest: Actions Speak Louder Than Words!

 

The Champions of Change Creative Crafts Fest is fast approaching!

The Fest is a week-long celebration of the Champion’s creative strengths, which will be showcased in order to dispel all the negative depictions of people with mental ill-health. The Champions achievements are sure to dazzle and impress… make sure you’re there!  

The Fest will take place from 22nd – 27th October 2012, at the Nottingham Society of Artists, St. Luke’s House, 71 Friar Lane, Nottingham.  

Features will include:
– Slide shows
– Rolling film, including the Champions of Change promotional video 
– A photographic display, including a thematic exploration of travels in Celtic lands
– A drama
– Creative artifacts
– Cards and other items for sale, including books and prints

There will also be a Time to Change stall and mural exhibits.

The Champions have also gained acceptance from the Mental Health Foundation to do a Tea & Talk session one afternoon.

This will take place  from 2 – 4 pm on Wednesday 24th October and will be held in upstairs Gallery- Everyone is welcome to attend this!

National Cancer Action Team- Event, Small Grants & Volunteering

Please note that as part of the activity in Nottingham, small grants are available for groups to run awareness events. Groups who are interested need to express interest this week (3rd September -9th September) by taking 10 minutes to complete a form.
