So long, farewell….

So long, farewell….

Helen and Tanimola have been fantastic members of the team at Bright Ideas, helping to develop work with their well honed skills and expertise.  They have both begun new jobs at the start of this new year, Helen here in Nottingham and Tani all the way down in Exeter.  We will be staying in touch, but want to wish them all the best in their new roles and thank them for all their hard work.  We will miss you!

Here comes 2011…

All of us at Bright Ideas want to wish you all the best for a happy, productive and exciting 2011.  Keep in the groove!

A Bright Christmas to all…

Nyssa in the Evening Post

Vintage Dolls was featured in the Evening Post yesterday!  Good news for Nyssa and for our campaign to raise awareness of Bowel Cancer.  We launched our Toilet Roll Doll competition that evening, more details here next week.

Congratulations Colin!

Congratulations to Colin, who was nominated for a volunteering award, and had the chance to go to an awards ceremony on the 30th November!

The St Anns and Dales Volunteer Achievement Awards were held at BioCity on the 30th November.  Colin was nominated in recognition of his fantastic work leading walks and inspiring people with his insights into local areas.  A fantastic man, and a well deserved honour.

Photos from the Take Part screening

Thursday 18th November saw Bright Ideas host a screening of short films made by the production team at Broadway about voluntary and community groups from the East Midlands (but outside of the city).  We were privileged to have a welcome from the Lord Mayor of Nottingham and short talks from Mel Lenehan of the WEA and Julie Cassidy Gosling from Advocacy in Action.  It was great to be able to welcome groups from near and far to our city and to celebrate their achievements and spend some time thinking about how much can be achieved to improve our communities.

Some images can be found on Toby Neal’s website here.

More of our own to follow.

A course on completing a testing kit…

Bright Ideas will be hosting a series of short, two hour courses to help those over 60 complete and return their NHS Bowel Cancer Screening kit.  For more information visit the course page where you can read and download more information and the booking form.

Local Hero!

It’s fantastic to see Martin Glynn being celebrated.  Bright Ideas and Martin have worked together numerous times including the I Believe I Can Fly and Get On Up projects.  Well done Martin!

There are two reports below, one about Martin receiving his award and the other a press release from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust who awarded Martin a Travelling fellowship to produce some research in Baltimore (USA).  This was part of a research project centering around issues of fatherlessness amongst young men.
