Let's Get to the Bottom of Things

Discussion Groups Advert by Bright Ideas Nottingham

The bowel cancer screening programme is a new national screening programme that aims to identify bowel cancer at an early stage when treatment can be more effective.  It involves providing a stool sample.  The kit can be completed in the persons own home before being sent off for testing.  In Nottingham, the bowel cancer screening test kit is sent out to people aged 60-69, although only half of those receiving the kit actually complete and return it.

Bright Ideas is a community based organisation that engages and involves local people and we have been commissioned by NHS Nottingham City to explore the views of people aged 60-69 who live in Nottingham City.

We have already spoken to over 200 men and women who have told us about their experience of receiving the kit. We are now trying to find out what encourages people to complete and return the sample and what stops others. We would particularly like to speak with more men.

We are holding discussion groups with men aged 60-69 who have received a kit to understand more of what motivates or stops people to undertake the test.

If you live in Nottingham City and have received a bowel cancer screening kit and want to join in an interesting discussion with our friendly team and other local people, please contact us.

Discussion groups will be held during March 2011.

On the day, each person attending will receive a voucher for £10 and travel expenses. All participants will remain anonymous.

This work is being funded by NHS Nottingham City.

If you are a man or woman living in Nottingham City and want to talk about your experience, but not as part of a group, please contact us and we will call you back or come to meet you.
